What does a signet ring cost? That is the question we are asked most often, and it deserves an honest answer rather than a teaser price. With us, handmade gold signet rings start around €1950 for ladies and around €2450 to €2900 for gentlemen, excluding engraving. The exact signet ring price depends on four factors, which we explain openly below.
The signet ring price begins with the precious metal
A quality signet ring is solid 14 or 18 carat yellow gold, white gold or rose gold; silver and platinum are available on request. Gold is bought at the daily rate and that rate moves. If the gold price rises, the ring price rises with it. That is not a drawback: it also means your ring retains its intrinsic value and that you are wearing precious metal, not gold-plated base metal.
Weight and model
A substantial gentleman's ring with an oval face contains considerably more gold than a refined ladies' ring, and a larger ring size requires more material. The model matters too: a heavy straight-shouldered or antique model sits differently in weight than a slender round face. That is why the starting prices for gentlemen and ladies differ. With or without a gemstone
If you choose a face with an engraved gemstone, such as layered agate, heliotrope or onyx, the stone is added to the price. The type of stone and the size determine the amount. A solid ring without a stone is often somewhat more affordable at base, although here too it depends on the gold weight.
The engraving: fixed, transparent prices
For the engraving work we use fixed prices, separate from the ring: a shield €325, a shield in lozenge form €325, a shield with crown €325, a traditional family coat of arms €525, a coat of arms with supporters €675, an alliance coat of arms €725 and a complex coat of arms €850. That way you know exactly where you stand in advance, even if your coat of arms is rich in detail.
Cheap signet rings versus handwork
Online you will find signet rings for a few tens to a few hundred euros. Those rings are machine-cast, light in weight and often merely gold-plated, with a flat laser engraving that fades over time. A handmade ring in solid gold is a different category altogether: the engraving has depth, the ring can be worn for generations, restored and even re-engraved, and the precious metal retains its value. You are not just paying for a piece of jewellery, but for a family heirloom.
